Wisdom teeth (3rd molars) usually become impacted because they don't have enough space to come in (erupt) or develop normally. Wisdom teeth usually emerge sometime between the ages of 17 and 25. Some people have wisdom teeth that emerge without any problems and line up with the other teeth behind the second molars. Wisdom teeth can continue to erupt until the age of 30. About 2% of people are born without any of the four wisdom teeth. Wisdom tooth pain is the most common reason young adults seek emergency dental care.
