Teeth During Winters

The winter season brings along the Christmas and New Year celebrations but did you know that this festive season also brings a significant drop in the mercury levels that also affects your teeth. With all the diseases and ailments like flu and cold infecting your body in winter, you need to take some extra and special care of your oral cavity to prevent additional spreading of bacteria. Just like the rest of your body, the teeth feel the cold. A healthy mouth is always a gateway to a healthy body.

1) BRUSHING TWICE WITH SOFT BRISTLES TOOTHBRUSH: Brushing and flossing are the two primary ways through which we ensure that our mouth remains clean. It is known that toothbrushes with hard bristles can do severe damage to your gums and enamels in winters, so switch to a soft bristles toothbrush with a desensitizing toothpaste to relieve the sensitivity issues if any. Usage of mouthwash at least twice a day is also recommended to keep your mouth germ free.

2)CARE OF YOUR GUMS: As mentioned before, germs and bacteria responsible for causing fluid during the winter season, and can also be a reason for gums infection in your mouth. If you notice any redness or inflammation, visit a dentist because they will guide you about the problem.

3) AVOID A FEW TYPES OF FOOD: Consumption of food and beverages with high acidic and sugar content should be avoided in these chilly months. Such food items and carbonated drinks soften the enamel layer and make your teeth more prone to erosion and decay. Candies with high sugar content should be avoided.

4) RINSING AND GARGLING: Rinsing your mouth twice with the mouthwash and doing warm saline gargles will clean all the gums and teeth and prevent any kind of food lodgement. Thus maintaining excellent oral hygiene is important

5) DRINK PLENTY OF WATER: Just remember that drinking less water can lead to dehydration that ultimately leads to less production of saliva. And less saliva is considered ideal for the growth of bacteria in your mouth. So it's quite important to stay hydrated and keep your teeth healthy.

6) WEAR A MOUTHGUARD: Wearing a mouthguard will also nullify the chances of teeth injuries.
